Web Design Services

SCET offers web design services to UC Berkeley departments, units and programs, as well as to small businesses and startups external to campus.

Web design is executed as a UI/UX project, which lasts approximately 12 weeks. During that period, SCET designers will follow the 6 stage process for UI/UX design to help you solve a tangible problem you are experiencing with your website. The process includes interviews, surveys, focus groups, competitive analysis and other research-based approaches to understanding the experience for website users and working to improve the experience to meet your goals for the site.

6 Stage UI / UX Process

Using the 6 stage UI/UX project to design websites ensures a thoughtful and intentional design that sustainably solves web design issues. Designing thoughtfully avoids having to constantly re-assess and re-build.

  • Research and Analysis: Analysis of current site, including competitors, conducting user interviews and surveys, and analyzing web traffic.
  • Information Architecture/User Flow: Development of a clear and intuitive navigation
structure, including developing sitemap and defining user flows.
  • Wireframing: Creation of low-fidelity sketches for website layout with opportunity for
client and user feedback as needed.
  • Visual Design: Mid-fidelity and high-fidelity designs aligning with the department's desired aesthetics and branding, including space for client and user feedback.
  • Prototype/Usability Testing: As needed, develop interactive prototypes to test new
    treatments, designs, layout, etc.
  • Design Handoff: Final Figma web designs ready for implementation.

Case Study: BEGIN

During the research phase, SCET administered user surveys, interviews, focus groups and a competitive analysis to better understand user insights and pain points. After synthesizing the research, SCET designers developed three rounds of prototypes to give time for clients to give feedback on the development of the design.
