CalDay has always been the perfect opportunity for potential new undergraduate students to get to know one of the most prestigious universities on the planet. This past Saturday, high school seniors, their families, and the already Cal-bound community participated in a series of events, exhibitions and lecture series that aimed to depict what is it like to be a member of Berkeley: a community that never ceases to innovate, disrupt, and be curious enough to try and enact change that matters.
As one of the most important advocates on campus for this way of thinking, the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology hosted a series of interactive and informative events to immerse the newcomers in what have been the Center’s most promising initiatives during the past few years. Families and prospective students were able to hear about this hub of innovation from the words of its Managing Director himself, Ken Singer, who shared with the audience the purpose of consolidating such a technology-centric ecosystem within the College of Engineering.
Perhaps one of the most informative sessions was the Emerging Areas in Technology and Entrepreneurship showcase. During the span of one hour, attendees were addressed by current Berkeley undergraduate and graduate students who have been involved with the Center in a wide array of its Programs and have been able to execute ideas that have ultimately become promising ventures: from Jamie She, Cofounder of Damara, an easy-to-use mechanism to track women’s fertility cycle to help them through the struggle of conceiving a family, to Rajpreet Muhar and Chang Liang, who have been able to leverage the power of technological platforms to improve natural disaster response.
In case you missed it, check out below some of our photos from Saturday.
We look forward to seeing at Cal in the fall!
