Job Title: Student Assistant II, Berkeley Startup Studio Course Assistant
Reports to: SCET Chief Marketing Officer, Keith McAleer
Pay: $18/hr,
Schedule: ~12-16 hours per week, fully remote
Must be available to work 3-4 weekly shifts from following:
- Mondays: 4:30pm – 7:30pm
- Tuesdays: 3:30pm – 6:30pm, 4:30pm – 7:30pm
- Wednesdays: 4:30pm – 7:30pm
- Thursdays: 4:30pm – 7:30pm
- Fridays: 9:30am – 12:30pm
The Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology (SCET) is a global innovation hub headquartered at UC Berkeley’s College of Engineering, where aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators explore the world of technology entrepreneurship and embark on the path to develop groundbreaking ventures. SCET researches emerging technologies in its labs and offers a suite of courses and programs for students and executives.
Description:
SCET is seeking a highly reliable and organized student assistant to support the new Berkeley Startup Studio, a suite of online entrepreneurship courses designed to empower founders, innovators, and aspiring entrepreneurs worldwide. The Berkeley Startup Studio Course Assistant will be responsible for running Zoom sessions for live online courses, providing technical and administrative support to instructors, and managing post-class video editing and uploads.
This position requires a positive, can-do attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while ensuring courses run smoothly. The ideal candidate will be comfortable using Zoom and have basic video editing skills. Reliability is critical, as the courses cannot run without this role.
Responsibilities:
- Course Support: Operate Zoom sessions for Berkeley Startup Studio courses, ensuring smooth functionality and troubleshooting any technical issues.
- Instructor Assistance: Provide live support to instructors, managing chat moderation, screen sharing, and breakout rooms as needed.
- Video Editing & Management: Lightly edit recorded sessions and upload finalized videos to the appropriate platforms.
- Organization & Coordination: Ensure all necessary materials and logistics are prepared before each class session.
Qualifications:
- Current UC Berkeley student. Work study preferred, but not required.
- Strong reliability and organizational skills—must be available consistently during class times.
- Comfortable using Zoom (screen sharing, breakout rooms, chat moderation, etc.).
- Basic video editing experience (e.g., trimming videos, adjusting audio, adding simple graphics).
- Interest in startups and entrepreneurship is preferred.
- Positive attitude and ability to work well in a team environment.
Eligibility:
Student jobs are restricted to UC Berkeley students who are registered for the current academic semester or in the grace period immediately before or after registration. International students should refer to the International Office website for employment eligibility details.
