Jacobs Design Conversations: Benjamin Joffe, 12-1 THIS Friday!

November 9, 2015

Each semester, the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation invites leading designers and makers to Berkeley to speak as part of the Jacobs Design Conversations series. Connecting diverse perspectives under one roof, Jacobs Design Conversations are spaces for dialogue on a broad spectrum of innovations and ideas.

As part of this series, Benjamin Joffe will share his insights on Friday, November 13.

Benjamin Joffe is the General Partner at HAX, the world’s first and largest hardware accelerator with 80 investments across five main categories: robotics, health, lifestyle, IoT tools and advanced manufacturing. Some of HAX success stories include the robotics company Makeblock (invested by Sequoia), Yeelink (invested by Xiaomi), Prynt (invested by GGV) and CHIP, the world’s first $9 computer. The consumer startups of HAX have run over 40 successful crowdfunding campaigns, with an average funding of over $300,000. Beyond HAX, Joffe is also an angel investor and in-demand speaker in tech conferences.

At the Jacobs Institute, Joffe will discuss building a global hardware startup in 2015. In this talk, Joffe will share the HAX vision of the “Lean Hardware” approach and their experience investing in and accelerating 80 startups ranging from robotics to health and lifestyle devices. This will also cover learnings from running over 40 successful crowdfunding campaigns.
