Collider Challenge Statement or Description:  The latest trend in human computer interaction is the AI Chatbot.  State of the art examples are Google’s Assistant and Siri.  However, this is just the beginning, since the ability for computers to respond to requests on twitter, sms, and even in place of call centers is becoming more widespread.

So What Is A Chatbot?
A chatbot is a service, powered by rules and sometimes artificial intelligence, that you interact with via a chat interface. The service could be any number of things, ranging from functional to fun, and it could live in any major chat product (Facebook Messenger, Slack, Telegram, Text Messages, etc.).  See https://chatbotsmagazine.com/

The Challenge

This Collider challenge will resemble a hackathon.  Teams of 2-3 students will be asked to develop code to create a simple AI Bot that can talk with and keep a individual or potential customer engaged long enough to allow for additional recommendations on content. Depending on what a person will share in the conversation, the AI bot can potentially offer news stories, suggested movies, products, etc.  The goal is to make the conversation engaging and helpful enough so that multiple recommendations can be offered and followed.  Team’s are encouraged to research why current chatbots are limited in making creating and sustaining engaging conversations.  Teams will be required to demonstrate their chatbot and share their chatbot code base.

Who should join?

We are looking for undergrads and grad students studying Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Social Psychology or any others with experience or deep interest in artificial intelligence and machine learning and UI/UX.
